About the Role

This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the medical workforce to complement the strategic direction, operational processes, budget and business direction of the Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH).

The MWU Manager will have particular responsibility and accountability for the management of the junior medical staff.

This will involve oversight of the medical workforce team responsible for recruiting, rostering, training and support of the junior medical staff.

The MWU Manager will also have oversight of the senior medical staff credentialing processes. The remuneration for this role is equivalent to HSM Level 4/5 commensurate with experience.


Key responsibilities:


  • Work with the Director of Medical Services to shape the medical workforce to align with the operational and strategic needs of the hospital
  • Provide advice to the CEO and Director of Medical Services on all medical workforce matters, including workforce planning and strategy for the hospital
  • Liaise with the Local Health District to ensure that junior medical staff engaged by them are allocated appropriately to meet the operational needs of the hospital as well as their training and HR requirements.
  • Manage the relationship with external stakeholders, including, but not limited to: HETI (Health Education & Training Institute), Local Health District medical workforce unit
  • Undertake work to prepare for College and HETI inspections
  • Prepare for and participate in recruitment activities for JMOs as required
  • Manage, supervise, support and collaborate with staff of the unit
To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in medical workforce management
  • Demonstrated high level of competence in interpersonal skills, consultation and effective communication with staff of the hospital including JMOs, VMO/VMPs, professional organisations, medical organisations, medical colleges and universities
  • An understanding of medical positions, training and medical institutions such as HETI & the Medical Colleges
  • An understanding of the relevant Industrial Awards and Instruments for Healthscope employees & VMOs
  • Roster and payroll analysis skills and HR, Payroll or Credentialing experience relevant to the role.
