The QCAA is a statutory body of the Queensland Government established under the Education (Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority) Act 2014.

In collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders and partner agencies, the QCAA plays a critical role in the design and delivery of education in Queensland.

The Quality Assurance Unit is part of the QCAA's Curriculum Services Division.

The Quality Assurance Unit is responsible for activities that contribute to the quality assurance of senior assessment, including endorsement, confirmation, and Applied syllabus quality assurance processes.

The Unit also supports schools by providing advice on the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
This position reports to the Director, Senior Assessment and Certification Support Branch. Eight (8) positions report directly to this role.
Main responsibilities


In this role you will:


  • Lead the Quality Assurance Unit to provide high quality assistance and support to all Queensland's senior curriculum, assessment and certification system.
  • Guide the Principal Project Officers' leadership of operational teams responsible for trial initiatives and professional development and training to support statewide comparability of standards of learning and assessment through a system of moderation.
  • Provide expert advice emerging issues in the senior phase of schooling including issues pertaining to emerging digital technology and artificial intelligence.
  • Provide expert advice to senior leaders about the interpretation and implementation of the strategic priorities, policies and procedures involving assessment and quality assurance.
  • Oversee training logistics, resource development and budget expenditure for statewide quality assurance activities.
  • Develop principles, guidelines and procedures for the professional development and training associated with quality assurance activities.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of documentation that guides and directs schools in the interpretation of the QCE & QCIA policy and procedures handbook for assessment and quality assurance of schoolbased assessment.
  • Manage the workloads of teams to efficiently identify and prioritise schools 'at risk' of not meeting quality assurance requirements.
  • Maintain currency with state, national and international developments in assessment and quality assurance to provide leadership to the Quality Assurance Unit and authoritative advice to schools.
  • Undertake specific tasks as required to assist the QCAA in achieving its business outcomes, including using data to inform decisions.
