Are you passionate about contributing to the next generation of pharmaceutical professionals and thrive in a collaborative, innovative environment? Curtin Medical School are seeking a dedicated Technical Officer to join our growing team.


Your new role
***As a Technical Officer working as part of the Laboratory Services Team, you will be a proactive member of our team in Pharmacy and primarily support teaching laboratories, particularly in Pharmaceutical Compounding.


Your role may also involve supervising other team members who assist you, providing backup support for the Technical Specialists when necessary, and contributing to continuous improvement in our laboratories.

Additionally, you will help manage consumable stocks, assist with equipment and laboratory maintenance, and maintain comprehensive documentation for laboratory procedures.


General Responsibilities:

Technical Guidance: Provide technical instruction and guidance to staff and students, including collaborating on the design and development of experimental processes and equipment use.

Health & Safety: Conduct safety inductions for staff and students, ensuring strict adherence to health and safety criteria at all times.

Preparation: Ensure materials and laboratory facilities are well-prepared and organized in advance for teaching and research activities.

Documentation: Produce documents, correspondence, and drawings, and assist in the preparation of reports.

SOPs: Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for safety, hazardous substances, equipment, and workspaces.

Maintenance: Maintain laboratories and equipment, conducting safety checks, servicing, and repairs as appropriate.

Stakeholder Advice: Advise stakeholders on the purchase of laboratory equipment and consumables for teaching purposes.

Inventory Management: Monitor and initiate orders for materials, consumables, and equipment, ensuring adequate supply levels. Participate in stock-takes.

Professional Development: Engage in multi-skilling and professional development programs to stay updated with advances in the field.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and advise the team leader.

Other Duties: Frequent/ Constant Handling and movement of equipment and materials between laboratories and buildings. Undertake other activities that align with the responsibilities and accountabilities listed above.

  • A degree in a relevant discipline with experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated problemsolving skills in a laboratory environment.
  • Commitment to providing a safe and highquality learning experience for students.

Desirable:


  • Experience in disciplines related to Pharmacy.
  • Experience in tertiary education teaching laboratories.
  • Familiarity with chemical health and safety policies and guidelines.
  • Current Class "C" driver's license.

The Curtin Medical School is one of four schools in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The school was formed in 2021 by the merger of the previous Curtin Medical School, School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and the School of Medical Radiation Sciences.

The school trains a range of health professionals through accredited BSc courses.
