Who we are

The Veterinary and Export Meat Branch (VEMB) undertakes regulatory functions by providing inspection and certification for the export of meat, meat products and the import and export of live animals and reproductive material in order to meet importing country requirements and Australian legislative requirements.


The Strategy & Governance and Workforce Planning and Regulatory Culture Teams undertake strategic planning, governance, and operational administrative support for the branch.

The team is responsible for the development and coordination of branch and divisional organisational reporting, workforce management and triage of organisational requests.

The team monitors and provides advice on branch performance measures and their effectiveness to ensure nationally consistent service delivery operations.

This includes performance reporting, financial management and verification, workforce and workload management, co-ordination of WHS including wellbeing strategies, learning and development, strategic communication, change management and liaison with relevant departmental corporate services and internal external stakeholders.

The team also delivers a range of workforce culture specific projects to support a sustainable workforce.


The Jobs
The main duties of the positions include, but are not limited to:

  • actioning a range of administrative functions in line with business requirements that may include travel administration, procurement, assisting in managing and maintain spreadsheets and reporting, assisting with meeting/event planning and other administrative activities, as required
- responding to general enquiries from internal and external stakeholders
- contributing to the resolution of issues and assisting with coordination activities
- building and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
- actively participating in, and contributing to, the department's corporate objectives and supporting change management, including staff and client participation, consultation and cultural change
- actively participating in ongoing learning and development activities to achieve personal, team and program objectives.


Please note that this recruitment process will initially be used to fill two ongoing vacancies, one in Brisbane and one in Melbourne. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.


What we are looking for

Knowledge and experience

The successful applicants will have demonstrated experience in a service centred role with a strong focus on customer service and stakeholder management.


Eligibility and other requirements
The successful applicants must hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers licence.
