The opportunity


Our Financial Services Audit and Assurance department is expanding our Operational Risk and Controls team as we continue to grow with client demand in this space.

This is an exciting, rapidly growing team that is looking for someone to help us build our business.

The growth of our team means we have opportunities for professionals to join our team across EY office locations in Sydney and Melbourne on a flexible full-time basis.

Our Operational Risk and Controls team works with a significant portion of the leading Financial Services Companies in Australia.

Our teams get to work with clients who are at both a mature and start-up phase of their journey across a range of areas including, but not exclusive to those areas listed below:


  • Control identification/gap assessment across various processes/function areas
  • Service Organisation Controls reporting (e.g. GS007, ISAE, SOC)
  • Internal Audit under both cosource and outsource arrangements
  • Compliance Plans
  • Compliance Advisory
  • Findings and Recommendation reports
  • Operational Due Diligence
  • Prudential Standards Gap analysis

Your key responsibilities

  • Leading fieldwork, managing performance, coaching and mentoring more junior team members and keeping engagement leaders updated on audit engagements
  • Effectively project managing our operational risk and control engagements with appropriate consideration of key risk issues
  • Engaging clients and providing advice and professionalism throughout engagements, including identification of areas for improvement in clients' business processes
  • Constantly developing your understanding of current market trends and processes and sharing your knowledge to develop junior colleagues
  • Understanding our clients' unique ambitions and needs and referring them to colleagues in other teams and areas to broaden our business relationships where possible

Skills and attributes for success

To qualify for the role you must have:

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills and a collaborative approach to management
  • Financial services experience looking to drive the expansion and strategy of a rapidly growing team
  • Experience managing and developing solutions to complex problems
  • A positive attitude with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn
  • Strong personal motivation and thrive in a team environment
