About the role


The Prison Support Officer (PSO) contributes to the overall suicide and self-harm prevention and intervention strategy in custodial settings by providing ongoing support and cultural expertise to prisoners at risk.


The PSO provides support to the individual prisoners who are seeking/have been referred for assistance, keeping in line with the Department's overall suicide and self-harm intervention and prevention strategy.


The PSO is also responsible for the management and performance of the Peer Support program, which is a well-established suicide prevention strategy, aimed at the early identification and support of prisoners at risk.


Eligibility to Apply


To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia.

To be eligible for a fixed term appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the duration of the contract.


All employees are required to undergo employment screening, which includes a National Criminal History Check and other checks that may be relevant to the position requirements.
