Job location
Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne city centre. Due to our announced expansion, we have a need for experienced like-minded professionals to join our team.

Thomas Embling Hospital is a secure Mental Health, currently 134 bed, hospital providing acute care, rehabilitation, and continuing care programs.

With planned expansion commencing 2024 with significant increase in access to care, we will have a dedicated Women's service and an additional medium secure men's facility.

About the Role:


The Prevention and Management of Aggression trainer will be accredited to deliver Prevention & Management of Aggression training and ensure all training promotes a recovery focused approach and supports a reduction in the use of restrictive practices.

The training provided is certified as complying with the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) training standards and sits within the broader Prevention and Management of Aggression Framework.


Duties:


  • Provide training to clinicians on positive approaches to managing aggression, including safer working practices and effective communication and deescalation skills.
  • Support a reduction in the use of restrictive practices, underpinned by a trauma informed approach.
  • Providing training aligned with The Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Standards to promote a reduction on the reliance of restrictive practices and protecting human rights.
  • Provide alternative practices to support therapeutic positive approaches and safer deescalation.

About You:


  • Ability and experience in providing training and/or education
  • Demonstrated commitment to reducing restrictive practices in a contemporary mental healthcare setting
  • Thorough understanding and demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer Recovery.
  • Demonstrated commitment to modelling the organisation's mission, vision and values in all aspects of interaction with colleagues, patients and external stakeholders.

What you need:


[Nursing]

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).

[Occupational Therapy]

  • Approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognised for membership of Occupational Therapy Australia
  • Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).

[Psychology]

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited course or equivalent, or a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).

[Social Work]

  • Approved degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
