The role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented, strategic, and data-driven
Head of Individual Giving
to join the team at Make-A-Wish Australia.


You will be responsible for providing positive strategic and operational leadership to an integrated data-based Individual Giving Program, comprising of direct marketing and regular giving.


The role is focused on maximising income from individuals, growing the number of individual supporters we have, increasing retention and financial value to ensure we can sustainably deliver great wishes.

The Head of Individual Giving will develop and implement multi-channel and donor-centric acquisition and retention strategies.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Oversee the Individual Giving team to ensure they effectively manage campaign budgets and achieve or exceed targets, departmental goals, and live the Make-AWish values.
  • Undertake performance reviews and succession planning activities with all team members.
  • Develop an Individual Giving strategy across multiple channels to deliver cash donor fundraising and supporter growth.
  • Develop and implement integrated donor stewardship and retention strategies to build supporter engagement and retention across other giving channels at Make-AWish.
  • Source and oversee the management of any required agencies, including regular giving and acquisition activities to meets our business needs and meets acquisition and retention targets.
  • Set and take responsibility for the overall annual budget for Individual Giving and complete periodic forecasts and variance reports as required.
  • Work with the Marketing, Digital & Engagement and Data teams to develop and deliver regular data insight presentations on individual givers, including analysing and benchmarking data, campaign KPI's and leverage insights to improve performance.
  • Ensure the collaborative and effective use of wish content including a continual focus on effective storytelling and ensuring supporters are updated on story impact and outcome.
  • Develop and implement an organisational wide conversation and crosspromotion strategy ensuring supporters are appropriately targeted and supported.

Skills and Experience:


In order to be successful in this role, you will be a data-driven fundraising leader who possesses the following:

  • A creative and innovative approach to work
  • Indepth knowledge of direct marketing, fundraising, and marketing analytics
  • An understanding of business mechanics in relation to planning, budgeting, financial forecasting, and basic business/legal structures.
  • Strong commercial acumen and financial literacy
  • The ability and desire to work collaboratively with other departments, leading by example for your group of direct reports.
  • Strong coaching skills to support your team members and assist them with development opportunities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • The ability to think strategically and have sound knowledge of industry fundraising trends.
  • The ability to make analytical decisions and develop innovative solutions.
  • The ability to tackle a problem by using a logical, systematic, and sequential approach.
  • A 'can do' attitude which is modelled for the team.
