The Opportunity


Responsibilities include:

  • Own the process of writing high quality user stories, product requirements, and other software specifications, to translate the vision and roadmap into actionable chunks of work. This will ensure that the team is fed with a continual supply of welldefined actionable work that minimises rework.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and provide inputs and perspective as they define the vision for the product so that the objectives and goals are clear.
  • Be the decision maker for both when backlog items are ready for work, and when the resulting work is completed to a satisfactory point to be claimed as done, so that the team has a single decision maker and overseer of the start and end of each item of work.
  • Work closely together with the Release Manager on the team to inspire, motivate, and direct the team, sharing the team leadership responsibilities.
  • Be a Subject Matter Expert on the product in interactions with Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Customer Service, and other functions, to ensure their considerations have been taken into account in what we build and release and guide those interactions where needed.
  • Initiate the collection of key products metrics and monitor these on a regular basis to understand how our products are performing in field, to report on learnings and drive future product improvements.

About You.

To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:


Essential:

  • 5+ years' experience in software teams in a leadership capacity; either in project management, delivery management, or team management.
  • 3+ years' experience as a Product Owner
  • Strong understanding of product design principals.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to embedded software development.
  • Proven ability to prioritise effectively, across competing demands and in the face of some ambiguity.
  • Experience in change management for teams and processes.
  • Proven experience providing product direction and team leadership in a software development or engineering environment.
  • Ability to motivate and facilitate crossfunctional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Excellent knowledge of usercentred design principals.
  • Proven experience in influencing, managing, and building alignment between a range of senior, cross functional stakeholders. Team focused. Good at managing relationships and looking out for the needs of the team.
  • Proven ability to operate at the intersection of technology and business to maximise effectiveness with shaping product.
  • Indepth knowledge of Scrum and Agile Software Development methodology.
  • Excellent team player and team builder.
  • Able to deal with complexity; manage and have oversight of multiple, competing demands.
  • Proficiency in the use of analytics tools 58 years' experience in release and/or project management.
