About your new role


In this newly created role reporting directly to the Chief of Risk, the General Manager Compliance will lead The Star Entertainment Group's compliance function and be responsible for ensuring the group operates in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations whilst engaging with regulators in a constructive, transparent, and cooperative manner.


This leadership role operates within our three lines of defence model, setting the standards and expectations for compliance and regulatory matters, and providing challenge and support to ensure a robust process.


As such, the role will focus on leading:

Culture, awareness and competency

  • Driving a positive compliance culture which recognises the primary importance of meeting all regulatory obligations and personal accountability for compliance and risk

Transformation

  • A business owner/ lead for the Renewal Transformation Program Risk and Compliance workstream, providing challenge, input and sign off to deliverables across design, implement and embed milestones

Setting compliance behavioural standards

  • Owner of the Compliance Framework to develop and cascade a robust Internal Control Manual across all properties

Compliance risk assessments and robust control environment

  • Monitoring and challenging the Enterprise and BU Risk Profiles in relation to material compliance risks
  • Setting the standard for and providing advice and challenge on the design of the internal control environment for compliance

Assurance

  • Working with the Office of the Board to prepare the business for the annual Independent Compliance audit on behalf of the NICC (NSW)
  • Providing support and challenge to Line 1 to finalise regulatory commitments in response to audit reports issued by a Regulator/ Independent compliance auditor

Breach and issues management

  • Monitoring the potential new breaches and leading the daily triage of actions to support breach reporting to casino regulators within the regulated time frame
  • Supporting the effective escalation of all material compliance risks and issues to the Board. Providing board reporting on compliance, including breach reporting, and attending the BRC or other relevant board and committee meetings, as required

Regulatory engagement

  • Developing and implementing the Regulator Engagement standard and Suitability and Probity framework and providing support to leaders who are the nominated engagement leads
  • Casino regulator compliance audits (engage with regulator on forward plan, issue of reports, regulatory commitments, closure of items, reporting of status of items to regulator etc)

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • 10+ years' relevant experience coupled with tertiary qualification in legal, risk or finance
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as regulatory bodies
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Works well in, and supportive of, a team focused environment
  • Positive attitude and ability to adapt to change
  • Initiative and sound judgement to make appropriate and timely decisions
  • Ability to work with multiple conflicting priorities and time constraints
