About the role


You will use your excellent communication, negotiation, and problem solving skills when interacting with the community on compliance matters, including dealing with issues of investigation and enforcement.


You will be supported into this role by the Senior Building and Compliance Officers who will provide support, training and guidance as you develop in the role.

Previous experience in a similar role would be advantageous, however not essential.

The successful applicant will either have the required Building Permit Authority, or be prepared to undertake the training as part of the role.


You will be involved in:

  • Performing building and planning compliance tasks in accordance with legislation and council procedures;
  • Undertaking site inspections throughout the municipality
  • Investigating unauthorised work and noncompliance and taking appropriate enforcement action
  • Preparing related reports and correspondence as required

About you


This is primarily an administrative role so you will need to have good all round computer skills and literacy, proven ability to prioritise and deal with competing deadlines, and be diligent about record keeping and paperwork.

You will be a self-motivated professional, who shows initiative, can problem solve and has good time management skills.

In addition, you will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills and have strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

- have experience in a compliance, building or planning related field or within a local authority
- have sound knowledge and understanding of the current building legislation, regulations and codes; or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge, and
- be able to bring strong administration skills and computer proficiency to the role.


Previous experience in an investigative enforcement position and/or knowledge and experience in the building trade or surveying field will be looked upon favourably.
