Primary Purpose of Role
- Under potential bushfire conditions assess where aircraft should be stationed to meet likely risks and issue instructions for aircraft movement.
- In times of bushfires, assess whether aircraft should be utilised to suppress bushfires and issue instructions for the use of aircraft according to welldeveloped policies and protocols for the use of aircraft.
- Plot initial bushfire data from aircraft GPS points and download into internal software as an aid in assessing bushfire risk and threats.
- Track aircraft movements, including flights, flight times and ensure data is entered into appropriate databases.
- Under direction from senior officers, issue emergency alert messages to the media and the public in times of high risk utilising the national database and respond to media enquiries regarding bushfire conditions and status.
- Deliver training programs to staff and volunteers in the use of the emergency alert system, Critical Resource and Incident Information Management System Online Network (CRIIMSON) and Australasian Incident Reporting System (AIRS) systems.
- Disseminate total fire ban advice to the media and the public including upgrading website information as to fire danger risk and associated information.
- Advise appropriate persons of Government Radio Network (GRN) maintenance and outages to maximise the efficiency of the network.
- Assist in the development and assessment of policy and procedural matters that affect and/or impact on the operations of SACFS.
- Undertake data entry of brigade incidents' attendance into the AIRS reporting system and follow up with Brigades.
- Provide Brigades with technical support with electronic fire reporting as a helpdesk service.
- Maintain call routing of Interactive Voice Recording (IVR) and update messages as emergencies arise.
- Issue Emergency Warning and Bushfire Advice messages in consultation with the regional duty officers.
