The School of EECMS brings together Curtin's core capabilities across electrical engineering, computing, physics and mathematics, to better understand and advance our data-driven world and has built substantial knowledge in machine learning, cyber security, statistics and optimisation, digital transformation, radio astronomy, the internet of things, signal processing, embedded systems, renewable and power engineering.


Your new role
As a Technical Officer, you will primarily support teaching and research activities in Electrical Power and Renewable Energy Laboratories.


To support activities, you will assist in preparing, maintaining and conducting tests of electrical systems, identify faults and troubleshoot equipment, problem solve and develop solutions for testing protocols, calibrate and maintain testing equipment.


Training staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students in the procedures and use of laboratory equipment, instruments and apparatuses is also part of the role.


You will play an important part in ensuring that occupational health and safety regulations and specific statutory requirements related to the area's activities are followed and intervene when unsafe procedures are identified, especially when working with potential electrical hazards.


You will liaise with the Technical Operations Coordinator and ensure laboratory operations are properly resourced and develop improvements of laboratory practical's and provide guidance on best practices.


This is an active and engaging role where no two days are the same, allowing you to put your problem-solving skills to the test.


Essential requirements:


  • A diplomalevel qualification relevant to the Electrical Engineering discipline with considerable experience; or a posttrades certificate or advanced trade certificate and extensive experience as a technician.
  • Agrade electrical worker's licence.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in electrical and power electronics fields including the design, repairs, testing and commissioning of a wide range of electric drives, controllers, and motors to specified requirements.
  • Proven sound computer literacy in the use of computeraided design (CAD) and simulation packages and welldeveloped mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated practical experience with PLC/SCADA systems and Industrial Communications Protocols.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety principles and practices.
As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent working rights in Australia to be considered.
