We are currently seeking highly skilled
GM Tailings Plant for a DRC based client reporting to the Director of Operations, to oversee the safe, efficient and environmentally responsible management of tailings expansion and operations, continuously assess the tailings dams stability, implement reduction strategies and waste recycling, implement monitoring and control systems for early detection of anomalies,


About the Role / Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards and implementing best practices in tailings safety protocols.
  • Implement and supervise environmental management strategies to ensure compliance with regulations and minimize the ecological impact of tailings operations.
  • Effectively lead and motivate a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to optimize tailings operations, improve efficiency and contribute to the overall success of the copper mine.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve challenges quickly, implementing effective solutions to ensure uninterrupted tailings management operations.
  • Oversee strategic operations of tailings facilities, ensuring efficient processing, storage and transportation of tailings.
  • Enforce safety and environmental protocols to protect employee wellbeing and mitigate any negative environmental impacts.
  • Develop and manage budgets for tailings operations, identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, local communities and other departments within the organization.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with tailings operations, ensuring business continuity and adherence to industry best practices.
  • Remain current on current regulations and standards, ensuring that tailings operations meet all legal and regulatory requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • An engineering degree in civil, mining or a related field and an advanced degree will be an advantage.
  • Extensive experience (at least 15 years) in waste management and construction, comprehensive understanding of tailings design, construction, operations, including processing, storage and environmental management.
  • Have at least 5 to 10 years in a management position/role
  • Formal certification in Project Management Professional (PMP) and PMI accreditation would be desirable.
  • Mastery of budget management, cost control and financial analysis.
  • Tailings Treatment: Experience with various tailings treatment methods, such as flotation, leaching and filtration. Familiarity with the use of thickeners, clarifiers and other processing equipment.
  • Geotechnical knowledge: Understanding of the geotechnical aspects related to the storage of tailings and the construction of dams. Competence in assessing and managing the stability of tailings dams.
  • Water Management: Knowledge of water management systems, including water recovery and recycling in tailings operations. Implement water conservation measures to reduce environmental impact.

Experience with advanced monitoring and control systems for tailings operations. Implement real-time monitoring to ensure process stability and early detection of anomalies.

  • Waste management: Expertise in the management of waste generated during the treatment of residues. Implement reduction strategies and waste recycling.
  • Fluency in the English language is mandatory.
