The Surgery and Anaesthetics Department at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick is seeking a Staff Specialist OR Visiting Medical Officer, specialising in Paediatric Pain Medicine.


The positions on offer are:

  • Temporary Staff Specialist at 0.3 FTE, 12 hours per week OR
  • Visiting Medical Officer with equivalent funded hours
This appointment commences on 5 February 2024 and concludes on 2 February 2025.


What you'll be doing
Provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff.

Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Applicants must have completed the COVID-19 vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.


ASARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)
2 primary doses are required** for Category A positions (refer to NSW Policy Directive PD2023_022 _Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases_).


In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate.


Please note:

To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.


  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Pain Medicine Physician, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  • Desirable: Fellowship with the Faculty of Pain Medicine, ANZCA.
  • Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Paediatric Pain Medicine at the role delineation of the service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  • Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  • Availability to participate in an oncall roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
