The Role

The Health and Wellbeing team delivers both strategic and operational health and wellbeing projects across Defence that are key to supporting our people and capability.

The team are currently recruiting for two APS 5 and two APS 6 vacancies (the latter advertised separately). A merit list will be established to fill existing and future roles.


In our team, you will:

  • Contract manage, procure and deliver key Defence health and wellbeing programs, including but not limited to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Develop and execute a holistic wellbeing calendar to promote health and reduce mental illhealth and helpseeking stigma
  • Contribute to the development of Defences approach to the identification, assessment and control of psychosocial hazards to support healthy and safe workplaces and practices across Defence
  • Interpret and present health and wellbeing program data to inform continuous improvement
  • Contribute to Defences approach to suicide prevention, intervention and postvention
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Defence to ensure alignment and complementary provision of health and wellbeing supports
  • Maximise participation in health and wellbeing programs by leveraging existing communications channels and identifying improvement opportunities

About our Team

The Health and Wellbeing team are an enthusiastic, high-performing and people-centric team within the Directorate of Health and Wellbeing in Work Health Safety Branch.

We realise the value that proactive investment in holistic personnel health has on Defence outcomes.

The work we do has enterprise-wide impact, directly enabling our workplaces and ways of work to be conducive of good and improved health, safety and wellbeing outcomes in our personnel.


  • Proven experience to build and sustain relationships both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to support strategic objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work in complex and changing environments
  • Contract procurement and management experience
  • Proven ability to collect, interpret and effectively present data to inform continuous improvement.
