About the role


We are seeking a dedicated Just Brass Tutor position is to engage with at-risk students in partnering primary schools, through the provision of brass instrument tuition, participation in school-based ensembles, leadership development opportunities, and in a Just Brass band.

This position will be instrumental in connecting students and their families into relevant activities at The Salvation Army Corps.

It is expected that students who engage in Just Brass will further their musical skills and knowledge and grow in themselves as resilient young people.

What is the Just Brass program?


The Just Brass program, a community music program was established to provide opportunities to primary school students who would not normally have access to a high-quality music program.

Responsibilities include

  • Provide weekly brass tuition for young people in groups of two or more in school
  • Maintain strong relationships with Principals, teachers, and student wellbeing staff at primary schools to ensure positive outcomes for young people engaged in Just Brass program
  • Organise Just Brass specific special events each year, a minimum of one per term in school and in the community
  • Build strong relationships with Principals, teachers, and student wellbeing staff at primary schools to ensure positive outcomes for young people engaged in Just Brass program
  • Meet partnering primary school's administrative requirements for all participating students


This is a fixed term (12 months) part-time position (7.6 hours per week), based in South Barwon Corps, Belmont, VIC.

This is an award free role.

What you will have

  • Extensive experience in playing brass instrument/s, coupled with experience in providing instrument tuition
  • Music qualifications, including teaching qualifications would be well regarded
  • Commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army
  • Acts consistent with TSA vision, mission and values
  • Engages and contributes to team activities including discussion
  • Employee Working with Children's Check required
  • National Police check required
