Clinical Ethicist - Speciality

About the Role
This is a Permanent Part Time position at 32hours per fortnight within the Children's Bioethics Centre.


You will be responsible for supporting the clinical and academic director of the Children's Bioethics Centre to deliver clinical ethics advice to staff at RCH campus (one-on-one, as part of a multidisciplinary team meeting or as part of a clinical ethics response meeting); build capacity on bioethics across the RCH Campus through education to RCH and campus staff in departmental/ward meetings, workshops, annual conference and online forums; support RCH institutional ethics through policy development and engage in research as part of CBC programs.


What you'll achieve:


  • Engage with RCH clinical staff (medical, nursing and allied health) by providing clinical ethics liaison prior to clinical ethics case consultations.
  • Participate in clinical ethics case consultations, including contributing to discussion, taking notes, contributing to writing reports, and chairing/cochairing as required
  • Deliver clinical ethics education to: RCH staff (medical nursing, allied health, administration) at departmental meetings and other educational activities on the RCH campus; and to professional networks and meeting at local and state level.
  • Contribute to research projects relevant to the work of the CBC, as required and in consultation with the Academic Director
  • Provide support for the Academic and Clinical Directors in the development of guidelines and policy advice about ethical issues relevant to the RCH.


Classification for this position will range from RZ- RZ7 Grade 4 Year - Grade 4 Year 5 (base salary $125,034 to $145,402 per annum pro rata plus superannuation).


Your skills and experience:


  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and post graduate bioethics and/or clinical ethics training
  • Postgraduate qualification (or working towards one)
  • Proven capacity for leadership in a team environment and ability to work well as a senior team member

About Children's Bioethics Centre


The Children's Bioethics Centre provides clinical ethics advice to clinicians at RCH and the institution generally at the discretion of the Executive.

The CBC also builds capacity in ethics through its education and research program. The clinical ethicist will work closely with the Academic and Clinical directors.

The clinical work of the CBC is overseen by the Clinical Ethics Committee and reports to the Chief Medical Officer.
