We currently have an exciting leadership opportunity for a WHS Strategy Team Leader at our Perth Office on a 12month fixed term basis.

We are looking for a seasoned professional with extensive experience and knowledge in safety, operations, and risk management.


About this role


This is a critical role driving the Safety, Environment, Quality & Training function's core Strategic responsibilities, including providing technical leadership, resource management, reporting, analysis, and strategy project governance in alignment with Western Power's Project Governance Framework.


This position is responsible for leading and developing a team of professionals, who are accountable for the optimal delivery of the Safety Maturity Strategy program, that includes projects and strategic initiatives including (but not limited to) WHS legislative obligations, Due Diligence, risk management, safety leadership program, training needs analysis and critical risk management.


Other key accountabilities include:

  • Accountable for the delivery and managing the implementation of assigned health and safety improvement projects, work bundles, programs of work and concurrent projects, including responsibility for ensuring that scope, quality, time, and budget targets are met and for managing the associated risk and benefits realisation.
  • Assist the Area Manager in building and maintaining a clear value proposition in line with Western Power's operating model for the WHS Strategy area. This will include efficiency and effectiveness through standardisation of the service offering, and improving ways of working with other areas of the Safety, Environment, Quality & Training function.
  • Ensure implementation of Western Power's Safety, Health & Environment Management System.
  • Identification and implementation of modernising opportunities for Program delivery that achieve cost and time efficiencies and quality improvement.
  • Guiding and coaching team members to build strong, direct relationships within their teams, as well as develop and nurture talent, providing clear career path/growth opportunities.
  • Build a mindset of continuous improvement and innovation within the team and across the Safety, Environment, Quality & Training function.
  • Ensure that all required resources are recruited, developed and deployed effectively to meet Western Power's commitment to the WHS Strategy Program.

About you
We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Commerce, or relevant discipline, or relevant significant experience.
  • Sound knowledge and prior experience of program or project management within a safety environment, including a highlevel understanding of all technical concepts that contribute to delivering the desired project outcomes.
  • Experience in managing teams of multidisciplined professional employees with strong organisational and technical knowledge / leadership, engagement.
  • Strong Stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in providing governance in managing interdependent projects and associated risks.
  • Interaction with others is primarily concerned with influencing, developing, and motivating people and changing behaviour.
