Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment, and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

About this role


We are seeking a values-driven Youth Case Worker who will through the Mission and Values of The Salvation Army (TSA) and TSA Independent Non-State Special Assistance Schools, engage students in sustainable Education, Training and Employment Pathways.

Provide students with appropriate responses that enhance their emotional, physical, spiritual, psychological and social needs. Enable students to foster healthy, safe and respectful relationships with family, community and significant others.

You will successfully

  • Support the Engagement Policy by, encouraging students to continue engaging in education at TSA Independent Schools and complete their education and transition to further education, training or employment.
  • Monitor Attendance Policy as a means of increasing awareness of students experiencing barriers, and implement client focused engagement strategies to foster a more positive educational and learning experience.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with policy, including spreadsheets, data bases and individual files.
  • Identify and provide appropriate assistance to student experiencing difficulties at school and /or at home which may put them at risk of disengaging from their learning.
  • Monitoring and supporting students social and emotional wellbeing
  • Create and maintain student lead transition plans.
  • Provide information, support referral and advocacy for students
  • Develop and maintain business partnerships for students to access work tasters, work experience and traineeships.
  • Collaborate and partner with external agencies to build pathways for school growth
  • Additional duties as determined by manager.
This is a full-time, max-term (12 months from start date) position located in Lawnton, QLD. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Level 4 award.

You will have

  • Minimum of Diploma level qualifications in community/youth services, education or similar discipline or minimum Certificate qualifications and/or extensive experience.
  • Demonstrated experience, skills and knowledge with working with students with trauma histories and/or are 'at risk' of being disenfranchised from school.
  • Experience in effective case management and facilitation.
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.
  • An understanding of trauma, mental health and social and emotional development
  • A national police record check is required
  • Drivers Licence
  • Working with Children Card
