- Opportunity to travel to Indonesia for projectrelated activities
Soils and climate change are connected. The Soil-Atmosphere-Anthroposphere Lab explores these connections to solve environmental problems in urban, rural and global settings. We are looking for a highly motivated junior scientist to support our research projects in Australia and Indonesia.
You will be involved in soil science and micrometeorology field work in Australia and Indonesia, laboratory work including responsibility for soil carbon instrument set up, maintenance, data collection and co-supervision of student researchers and project administration.
Research foci include carbon sequestration in regenerative agriculture systems in Australia, and the carbon and water dynamics of peatland restoration in Indonesia and the Australian Alps.
To be successful in this position, you'll meet the following Key Selection Criteria:- Science background in a relevant area (Bachelors, Honours or Masters degree).
- Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including competency with a variety of online communication platforms.
- Demonstrated high level organisational skills, time management and self-motivation.
- Experience in the meticulous management of scientific equipment, samples and data.
- Interest and capacity to regularly travel within Australia and overseas, including to remote areas with basic or no facilities.
- Value-driven approach to supporting high impact environmental research.
Qualifications:
Mandatory:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant science discipline area, such as soil science, ecology, environmental science, biology, or chemistry. Australian Drivers Licence.
Preferred:
Postgraduate studies such as Honours, Masters or PhD or equivalent science or related project management work experience.
