Our client is a newly established Commonwealth government department focused on delivering the Australian Government's climate change and energy agenda and to protect our environment and water resources.


You will join a
specialist policy team responsible for delivering the Australian Government's commitments under the
National Water Grid Fund, to plan, identify and build the next generation of Australia's water infrastructure.

This team is
shaping national water infrastructure policy and developing a National Water Grid - a series of region-specific systems that will help secure reliable supplies of water now and into the future.

The Opportunity:


The priority of the team is to research different types of potential water infrastructure investment options taking into consideration the government's priorities for investment.

They take a regional analysis approach by researching on a catchment-by-catchment basis to determine what types of water technologies could be used to promote water security.

As an
APS5/APS6 Policy & Research Officer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Preference for you to be located in Brisbane or Canberra, but if you are a strong and independent worker, you can be located from anywhere across Australia
You will be engaged on a
12-month non-ongoing contract with view to permanency.


The Role:

Working within a team environment, you will be expected to:

  • Support senior staff in developing policy and strategy positions in key areas that have been identified as strategic topics for the team
  • Research, analyse and provide policy advice on potential water infrastructure investment
  • Support the team in developing and maintaining productive working relationships with stakeholders including industry organisations, state and territory government officials and officials at other Commonwealth agencies
  • Research and analyse current circumstances, limitations, and sequence in which water infrastructure can contribute to addressing water constraints
  • Continually scan the environment to ensure relevant issues are informing policy and investment decisions
  • Support the team in shaping recommendations to Government, including through the drafting of highquality briefings and ministerial correspondence on policy and program issues
  • Provide the team with administrative support

The Ideal Person:


At the APS5 level, you could have recently completed your tertiary studies, have a strong administrative background in government and are now motivated to transition into a policy-focused role.


At the APS6 level, you will have experience in policy in a federal or state/territory government environment._ _


You will also:

  • Have the ability to build strong rapport with a range of stakeholders including state/territory partners to understand what their water infrastructure priorities and issues are
  • Be comfortable operating in an ambiguous environment as the scope of the team's work is still being solidified
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to tailor language to different audiences and with a high level of attention to detail
  • Have strong research and analytical skills
  • Have the ability to exercise strong judgement
  • To be eligible for this role, you must be an Australian citizen. You must also have, or be willing to obtain, a Baseline security clearance._

Salary / Rate:

-
APS5: $78k - $87k + 15.


4% super:

-
APS6: $88k - $101k + 15.


4% super:


  • 2 x vacancies at the APS5/6 level
  • You will be engaged on a 12month nonongoing contract with view to permanency
