The Parliamentary Budget Officer is an independent officer of the Parliament of Victoria established under the Parliamentary Budget Officer Act 2017.

The Parliamentary Budget Office is staffed with highly competent professionals with expertise across fiscal, economic and financial disciplines as well as policy and public sector experience.

We provide policy costing and advisory services at the request of members of parliament.

Around general elections, we engage with parliamentary leaders of political parties to prepare election policy costings, pre-election reports and post-election reports.

In this role you will help us to contribute to policy development and debate in the Victorian community.

The role
As an Analyst, you will prepare policy costings and advice, and support the functioning of the team to achieve high quality outcomes


Specifically, you will:
- prepare policy costings and advice, analysis and briefings in relation to economic, financial and fiscal issues impacting Victoria
- liaise with public sector bodies to obtain information and develop policy understanding
- contribute to the preparation of pre-election and post-election reports on the impact of political parties' policies on the state budget
- perform other duties as required to support the Parliamentary Budget Office in performing its function.


Qualifications:

A tertiary qualification in business, accounting, commerce, mathematics, engineering or a related discipline is required.

  • Certified Practising Accountant or Chartered Accountant membership
- experience using statistical programs such as R
- experience with or expertise on the Victorian state budget.


Skills:
This role requires you to translate complex conceptual ideas into policy costings, models and advice and possess:

  • high level of written and verbal communications skills, as well as the ability to maintain good working relationships
- a high level of business and financial modelling and analysis skills
- knowledge of government functions, policy and budgeting.
