The Scrum Master is responsible for the delivery of projects in a timely, controlled and predictable manner. The position will ensure that Agile methodologies, specifically Scrum, are understood, practiced and enacted within their team.

The Scrum Master will work in close collaboration with the Program Director and will be responsible for coaching the development team to self-organise and create high-value products, as well as being responsible for removing impediments to Project Team progress.


Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of complex solutions, establishing and controlling project constraints and scope.
  • Manage reporting for the project and within the allocated budget.
  • Ability to manage and maintain relationships and effective communication with all project stakeholders and team members.
  • Coach the project team as appropriate according to the needs of the individual project and provide constructive feedback to team members and their line managers.
  • Oversee and manage the Scrum team. Ensuring the team adheres to Scrum theory, practices and rules, and work as the Scrum Master within Agile project teams.
  • Provide clear ownership for and visibility of the resolution of all project risks and issues.
  • Lead improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of the project delivery service and contribute to the identification of areas of improvement.
  • Ensure the decisions made on project approach are documented and comply with ISO9001 and ISO27001 standards.
  • Support the Project Owner(s) in project delivery by maintaining and developing processes, standards, tools and reporting and their documentation, and proactively review the service provided to endusers.
  • Facilitate sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and backlog grooming with the Product Owner.
  • Act as a project manager when necessary and take responsibility for managing dependencies between our team and third parties or between our team and other scrum teams.
  • Ensure hazards and risks are identified and controlled for tasks, projects and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others

Your skills and experience:

  • Relevant qualifications and a strong track record in Scrum and Agile Project Management using delivery management tools (e.g. JIRA and Confluence). Scrum / Project Management certifications are highly regarded.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to clearly convey ideas and information in a professional manner through presentations, written communication and other means.
  • Experience in managing multiple agile project deliverables within a program in a highly regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of software development processes and technology, incremental project delivery, and progress tracking metrics within an Agile environment, and the ability to convey this information to a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Significant experience in successfully delivering projects and business solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in pragmatically and flexibly implementing Agile that is a good fit for the size of the organisation.
  • Proven experience in partnering with business and technology leaders to deliver highvalue customer facing projects.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
