About the Portfolio

The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise-wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences.

The Portfolio incorporates the following business units:

Enterprise Projects and Business Performance (EPBP), Communications, Experience, Human Resources, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Procurement and Property Services Group (PSG).


The Portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups.

The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life, across the globe.

Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.

The Information Technology Services (ITS) function provides RMIT University with current and emerging Technology systems and services.

About the role


Acting as a trusted advisor to the CIO, the Director of the Office of the CIO is a key Leadership position within the RMIT Global Technology Leadership Team.

This senior leadership position primarily aims to support ITS leadership at a strategic and operational level, including setting the operating rhythm for the function.


In addition, this position will lead the investment management and reporting requirements to deliver data and insights to key stakeholders.

Partnering with the CIO and working closely with the People Team, workforce planning will also be a key focus in alignment with the ITS Strategy and blueprint.

This role will also manage and lead best practice for IT Riskpolicy and compliance across ITS

To be successful in this position you will ideally have:

  • Exceptional and proven leadership skills in a complex enterprise environment with C-suite stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to adapt these to a diverse range of stakeholders and contexts.
  • Extensive experience (8+ years) in the leadership and operational management of a business unit, including financial management control of > $20m budgets.
  • Demonstrated outcomes achieved through management of high performing teams, mentoring and coaching team members through all stages of career and personal development.
  • Proven capability to define, develop and manage key policy and compliance processes.
  • Previous experience analysing and reviewing over-arching risk mitigation procedures developed by our IT Security team, ensuring they provide a secure, low risk environment for the University to operate within.
  • Proven experience developing workforce plans and managing employee development through learning and training strategies which align to business strategy and blueprints.
