The Midwifery Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for the coordination and delivery of the Transition to Practice Programs for Maternity Services at Western Health.

The Graduate Midwife Program Coordinator will support Western Health - Centre for Education and Learning in achieving its strategic aims.

They will support the growth and maintenance of the future midwifery workforce by coordinating programs that are based on best evidence and utilises contemporary educational theoretical frameworks and promote life
- long learning.


The Grade 5 Midwifery Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the Education and Learning management team at Western Health and will work closely to and report directly to the Grade 6 Midwifery Education and Learning Manager.


The role will include (but not limited to):

  • Coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the Midwifery Transition to Practice Programs
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to support workforce development in Maternity Services
  • Designing and delivering sustainable programs to enhance participants experience and transition into the workforce
  • Monitoring program participants development in clinical reasoning, clinical skill and professional development, ensuring they are meeting all program requirements
  • Actively promoting and coordinating recruitment and onboarding requirements, including rotation planning
  • Collaborating with Clinical Midwifery Educators and Clinical Support Midwives to deliver optimal education and clinical support to program participants
  • Meeting set operational and financial targets
  • Design and maintain a midwifery program database
  • Meeting reporting requirements as set by WH and DHHS

To be successful in this role you must possess:

  • Current Midwifery or dual Nursing/Midwifery registration with AHPRA
  • Masters with an educational focus (or currently undertaking)
  • A minimum of 5 years clinical midwifery experience with advanced clinical skills
  • A minimum of 3 years Clinical Education experience, including experience in the development, implementation, assessment and evaluation of educational programs, with the ability to utilise contemporary strategies based on adult learning principles and theoretical frameworks.
