What you'll be doing


To provide a high standard of customer service to all NSLHD Oral Health patients, visitors and employees in a manner consistent with the NSLHD Core Values and Behaviour Charter.

To provide appropriate supervision and direction in ensuring that high quality dental assisting services are provided and maintained.

To assist in the efficiency and functionality of the clinic and to help the clinic reach its goals set by the Clinical Director and Director.

The position is considered to be significantly experienced and capable of working in complex work environments and specialist areas and will undertake the full range of dental assistant duties.

The Senior Dental Assistant will be required to supervise up to 10 dental assistants and will be paid a supervision allowance.

This position requires flexibility with work duties and will be requested to provide support at the other NSLHD Oral Health dental clinics.

  • A nationally recognised Dental Assisting Certificate at Certificate level IV and demonstrated significant experience in a senior capacity that includes supervision of staff, allocation of duties and input into management decisions.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and proven ability to supervise and motivate staff in an encouraging and positive manner, including coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Demonstrated significant experience in providing competent dental assisting, including aseptic technique and 4handed dentistry, to patients of all ages and medical complexities, ensuring excellence in patient care.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, in interacting and liaising with a wide range of internal stakeholders and members of the public. Demonstrated computer literacy, data entry and keyboard skills including using patient management systems e.g. Titanium.
  • Demonstrated experience in following effective infection control and sterilisation standards, policies and procedures in all aspects of dental assisting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and to make clear decisions in pressure situations.
  • Current valid driver's licence and willingness to travel across NSLHD clinics to provide support if required.
