We are Quest Coffee Roasters, a long-established espresso bar and certified organic coffee roaster with a loyal community following in Burleigh Heads and the Gold Coast.

We sell coffee beans and products in-store, online, and wholesale. We are known for our top-quality coffee, delicious in-house baked cakes and treats, and friendly café service.

We have an opportunity for a skilled Standby Barista (Barista Hero) to join our team and provide standby support for our Burleigh Heads Cafe, Roastery, and new location in Broadbeach.

This role is vital in ensuring our customers continue to receive exceptional service, and our team receives support during unexpected absences or emergencies.

As a Standby Barista (Barista Hero), you will be the reliable and flexible barista who can step in on short notice to cover shifts and provide seamless service.

You will demonstrate exceptional barista skills and contribute to maintaining our high standards of coffee preparation and customer satisfaction.

In addition, you may have the opportunity to contribute to other areas of our business, including eCommerce and marketing, further expanding your skillset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as the oncall barista, ready to step in and cover shifts on short notice due to unexpected absences or emergencies
Promote coffee consumption by passionately educating customers about our coffee offerings
Welcome customers by understanding their coffee interests and needs
Educate customers about our diverse coffee drink menu, presenting and explaining our unique offerings
Sell coffees and coffee brewing equipment by effectively communicating the differences in coffee beans and preparation methods
Prepare and serve a variety of coffee drinks, including espresso, macchiato, latte, flat white, and cappuccino, following our prescribed recipes and techniques
Maintain inventory by replenishing our coffee bean supply
Ensure equipment operates smoothly by following operating instructions and performing routine maintenance
Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to organizational standards and sanitation regulations

Additional Standby Barista Responsibilities

Be available and ready to work at short notice to cover shifts due to unexpected staff absences or emergencies (up to 38hrs per week)
Adapt quickly to different work environments and seamlessly integrate into existing teams
Maintain a positive and professional attitude while providing excellent service during highpressure situations
Collaborate with colleagues and managers to ensure smooth transitions and consistent customer experiences

ABOUT YOU

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

1 or more years of recent experience as a professional barista, demonstrating your expertise and skill
Strong listening and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with customers
Knowledge of health and safety practices within a café setting
Flexibility to work on short notice and adapt to varying schedules
Ability to quickly learn and familiarise yourself with different cafe environments and systems
Excellent problemsolving skills to handle unexpected situations or challenges during shifts

NICE TO HAVE

Certification in Hospitality or related industry.
Indepth understanding of coffee growing regions and brewing methods
Experience as a Cafe Manager, and or Opening / Closing Cafe.
Baking or food handling experience.
IT / programming experience
Marketing / photography / or writing experience

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

Australian citizen, resident, or appropriate visa holder with the right to work in Australia.
Availability to work at least one weekend day every 2nd week.
Flexibility to work shifts from 5 am to 2:45 pm on weekdays, and between 5 am to 5 pm on weekends as a standby barista.
Passion for coffee and tea, and a strong desire to share that passion with others.
Reliable transportation to and from work, ensuring prompt and dependable availability for standby shifts.

BENEFITS

Minimum 10hrs per week, with additional hours as standby shifts are assigned.

- $31.40 to $34.50 / hr + Weekend / Holiday Penalties
