Acquisition SPO is seeking an experienced Finance/Commercial Officer who will be accountable under broad direction from the EL1 Assistant SPO Director to perform and achieve complex financial reporting work within an integrated workforce.

They will be accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision making and Defence's mission and policy requirements.

They will work alongside the level 2 Finance Officer and independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work.


As the Finance/Commercial officer you are an experienced professional who works effectively in a complex environment, applies excellent problem-solving skills and manages competing priorities and consistently achieves deadlines.

You are highly organised, energetic, and solutions focussed with good communication skills.

  • Previous employment in either a Defence project, commercial and/or finance role.
  • Building and sustaining stakeholder relationships including communicating with influence.
  • Familiarity with Financial Management Information Systems to run relevant financial reports, review the current financial status of projects and process invoices as required.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative.
  • Experience working in complex environments.
  • Proven commercial and business acumen.
  • Ability to analyse financial data and interpret results including identifying risks.
  • Understanding of the relevant legislation and frameworks including but not limited to the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (Cth) and the Commonwealth Procurement Framework.

Essential Criteria:


  • More than 5 years' experience in finance or commercial.
  • Strong data/analytical skills.

Desirable Criteria:


  • Experience working in Defence in finance, projects or commercial.
  • Comprehensive understanding or Defence processes and structure.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the One Defence Capability System (formerly the Capability Life Cycle).
