THE POSITION

Our client who is based in Queensland is seeking multiple Emergency Registrars for their Emergency Department for a February 2024 commencement date.


The Emergency Registrar is responsible for coordinating and documenting the admission, management and discharge planning of patients attending the Emergency Department in consultation with Emergency Physicians.


THE HOSPITAL

The Hospital is the largest health service in the area, it is a 250-bed facility that offers a range of specialist services including oncology, gastroenterology, obstetrics, and gynecology, renal, orthopedics, general surgery, medicine, psychiatry, pediatrics, and palliative care.

This hospital also provides local access to radiation oncology, ophthalmology, cardiology, pediatric ear, nose, and throat services.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES, AND DUTIES

  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Queensland Public Service
  • Adhere to service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
  • Understand your accountability to uphold the principles and practices of the Health Service's Health and Safety Management System in accordance with legislation and industry standards. Actively promote good health and safety practices to staff of your work area.
  • Carry out work in accordance with prescribed practices and procedures and in a manner that will not create health and safety hazards for yourself or others in the workplace.
  • Provide medical care under the supervision and direction of senior medical staff.
  • Document relevant clinical information and inpatient charts accurately, concisely, and legibly. Ensure discharge summaries and other correspondence are completed with minimum delay and that all such correspondence is complete prior to leaving the unit.
  • Conduct interviews, examinations and the identification of clinical problems including daytoday review of patients.
  • Arrange investigations, surgical treatment, medical treatment, and discharge as directed by the assigned consultant.
  • Aid with surgical procedures and outpatient clinics as directed by the Consultant.
  • Provide support for junior and senior medical staff as required.
  • Assist with case presentations at teaching meetings where necessary.
  • Participate in clinical meetings undertaken within the appropriate clinical unit.
  • Participate in afterhours shift roster as required by the Clinical Director, Department of Emergency Medicine.
  • Participate in continual professional development and medical education.

CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Ensures mandatory competencies are obtained on an annual basis.
  • Regular attendance and participation in service education sessions.
  • Cooperate with and be prepared to participate in educational activities and
- programs

  • Demonstrates responsibility for taking allocated professional development study leave days annually.
  • Keep a personal log of CPD points obtained.
  • Participate in audits if required.
  • Participates in the performance evaluation process annually.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Fully registered or eligible for registration as a medical practitioner with APRHA.
  • Minimum of PGY5+ experience relevant to the position of Emergency Medicine Registrar.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work a 24/7 rotating roster including weekends, nights, and public holidays.
  • Evidence of involvement in continuing professional development.
  • Proven reliability in work within personal level of expertise and seeking assistance as needed from senior staff.
  • Demonstrated interest in assisting interns and residents to extend their clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Registered trainee of ACEM or another specialty college with demonstrated progression through the training program.
