About the role:


The Resource Recovery & Waste Services team are responsible for educating the community in responsible resource recovery, managing the collection, processing and disposal of waste, commingled dry recyclables, garden organics and bulky waste from households across the Campbelltown LGA.

The team also administers contracts of local and regional benefit to the Campbelltown City community and coordinates the delivery of community education and awareness activities.


The position of Resource Recovery and Waste Services Coordinator is an integral part of Campbelltown City Council's waste management and education portfolio and will have a vital part in Project 24.


This role leads a growing team of passionate individuals who thrive on improving our services, educating the community and ensuring we are working towards a cleaner and better future.


In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • To monitor and review all relevant legislation, standards, codes of practise that relate to the activities of their section to ensure that Council processes and documents adhere to these requirements.
  • Administer domestic and nondomestic waste contracts to ensure service requirements are delivered to the highest standard.
  • Lead the business unit to deliver key objectives, including;
  • Development and implementation of waste management strategies, policies and business plans.
  • Delivery of effective community education in waste avoidance and increased resource recovery.
  • Provide expert advice on complex waste management issues to the broader business and work towards a positive solution
  • Liaise with key waste management staff in neighbouring LGAs to achieve regional collaboration on delivery of waste management services.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive job-related experience in waste management and leading a small to medium sized team.
  • Extensive knowledge of the waste management industry and government policy on waste and resource recovery.
  • Strong technical, operational and commercial knowledge and experience in the Resource Recovery and Waste sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act, NSW Waste Minimisation and Management Act, and relevant parts of the Local Government Act.
  • Ability to problem solve and think strategically.
  • Be aware of the multifacetted environment of resource recovery and waste management in a growing local government area.
  • Hold a current Class C driver's licence.
