Reporting to the GM, Government & Water Sector Strategy this role will lead Melbourne Water's policy function, and for advocating and influencing government policy in line with Melbourne Water's strategic outcomes.
This will be achieved through:
- Recognising and identifying policy barriers and legislative change at both a state and national level which prevent Melbourne Water from achieving strategic goals or key outcomes and which have significant benefit to our customers and community
- Develop policy positions to influence government policy, regulation review and reform
- Develop submissions, position papers and business cases to advocate or respond to potential government policy changes
- Facilitate targeted policy advocacy activities and coordinate Melbourne Water responses to key Government initiatives.
- Work closely with and build a strong, enabling relationships of influence with key stakeholders and the authorising environment
- Provide Advice to Board, Leadership Team and Senior Management on Melbourne Water's strategic position on key policy reforms with supporting evidence.
Your Skills and Experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Water and Environmental Management and/or Policy
- Extensive experience leading programs and teams delivering collaborative policy/advocacy programs
- Demonstrated high level relationship management and advocacy experience in complex authorising environment/operating contexts
- Advanced policy and communication skills, with demonstrated ground in risk and reputation management
- A strong understanding of political, policy and/ or regulatory processes
- Experience in policy and/or waterway and natural resource management
