    About the Team

    With a vision for unrivalled business excellence, our newly established Business Improvement Team marks the beginning of a transformative era at SYD. With a focus on enhancing service, maximizing capacity, and streamlining efficiency, the team will form part of the Group Operations Function, a team that proudly leads a world class operation that delivers memorable customer experience every day, in a safe, secure, and seamless environment.

    This team will work very closely with the COO and the Operations Leadership Team to to drive our improvement agenda. Together, we're not just raising the bar—we're setting a new standard for airport excellence.

    About you and the role

    24 Month fixed term contract

    As the Business Improvement Specialist, you will become the driving force behind operational excellence at the airport. Your mandate? To implement cutting-edge continuous improvement techniques that yield tangible, measurable benefits. With a keen eye for spotting improvement opportunities, you'll foster a culture of perpetual enhancement, always pushing the boundaries of excellence. Thriving amidst the hustle of a dynamic, multifaceted environment, you'll relish the challenge of your role, not being afraid to roll your sleeves up an get your hands dirty.

    We're seeking someone who embodies flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to dive deep to ensure a world-class customer experience. A natural problem-solver, you'll fearlessly challenge conventional norms to meet key objectives. Collaboration is at the core of your approach, as you seamlessly navigate across functions to achieve optimal business outcomes.

    We're looking for candidates with tertiary qualifications, ideally in engineering and a background in dynamic, fast-paced, customer-centric environments with complex stakeholder dynamics. You will have proven track record of 2-3 years in managing complexity and the ability to autonomously lead initiatives aimed at enhancing customer or stakeholder experiences.

    Your strong analytical skills will be essential for extracting meaningful insights from data to drive strategic outcomes. A commercial mindset is key, allowing you to balance hands-on operational delivery with strategic thinking. Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills are a must, enabling you to influence at an executive level and effectively convey complex concepts.

    The role responsibilities include, but are not limited to

    • Using Lean Six Sigma, DMAIC and other continuous improvement techniques to drive operational improvements at the airport and deliver tangible and measured benefits.
    • Continually benchmarking with applicable industry and other standards, collaborating on best practises through existing airport contacts that helps expedite improvement opportunities.
    • Work closely with Data team to leverage AI and Machine Learning that can be deployed to drive better outcomes and efficient execution on projects.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues with a clear goal to deliver improvements, this may involve supporting business functions and/or working in a project team.
    • Works with all levels of the organisation, front line to Executive, to ensure successful engagement & deployment which results in lasting change which teams embrace and own.
    • Coordinate communication activities and actively promote the process and results by publicising goals, plans, progress, and results.
