The role of the Principal Advisor is to provide clinical advice to the Director of Forensic Disability in relation to their responsibilities under the Forensic Disability Act and undertake clinical and legislative compliance activities regarding the management of clients with high and complex disability and forensic needs.


The Principal Advisor key responsibilities are: - Provide sound advice to the Director of Forensic Disability in relation to sensitive and complex case matters. Undertake monitoring and compliance activities, case and service reviews to contribute to the continuous improvement and development of systems and strategic initiatives to support the care and detention of forensic disability clients and/or clients with an intellectual or cognitive disability involved in the criminal justice system. Sound understanding of, and commitment to, cultural diversity and people with disability and high and complex needs. Establish and maintain collaborative and effective partnerships with relevant stakeholders providing services to clients with high and complex forensic and disability needs. Provide advice, education, training and information to service providers in accordance with evidence-based practice to contribute to client rehabilitation, habilitation and safe community inclusion. Contribute to the development and delivery of services for forensic clients with intellectual disability including high-level problem-solving and stakeholder engagement. Collect and analyse qualitative and quantitative data, and identify risk, emerging issues and trends. Prepare and present comprehensive reports, data collection, briefings and correspondence on operational or program issues. Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
