The role operates with a high level of autonomy within the Engineering Design and Assurance (EDA) team.

The opportunity
We are looking to appoint 2 Assistant Engineers on a two-year fixed-term contract to support Sydney Metro by undertaking detailed design and project activities.
Role 1:
Reporting to the Associate Director Engineering in Project Delivery, the Assistant Engineer will be undertaking detailed design and project activities and providing MEP engineering support (Mechanical and Electrical Building Services) to all projects and operations across the vibrant station precincts of Sydney Metro.
This role would suit a recent graduate who has a basic knowledge and understanding of principles of engineering design and assurance within the context of rail environment anis looking to grow their skills in a dynamic team working on some of Sydney's legacy projects.
Excellent verbal and written communication are key to this position as well as interpersonal skills.Responsibilities include:
- Work in conjunction with the Project teams to provide input into the definition of user requirements and Engineering Functional Specifications for projects
- Work in conjunction with the team to ensure the design for the project complies with relevant standards and is fit for purpose
- Participate in feasibility studies of, assist in developing proposed engineering layouts, project specifications, engineering solutions, technical reports and other written documents, and assist in ensuring the design is compliant with safety, legislative and other requirements
Role 2:
Reporting to Associate Director Systems Integration, the Assistant Engineer will be supporting Systems Integration and will work with a range of stakeholders, such as Systems Assurance, Systems Safety, Project Integration and Integrator and Delivery Teams, to ensure that the systems integration activities across various contracts and Rail Systems are properly and efficiently executed on the City and Southwest Project.
Responsibilities include:
- Attend stakeholder meetings involving various contracts (Stations, Line wide, Trains and Systems) to represent Systems Integration (SI) and monitor progress and support in conflict resolution.
- Assist in monthly reviews of system integration reports, progress updates and monitoring mechanisms provided by the Integrator covering multiple organizations and systems.
- Assist in monitoring SI issues and risks on the project reported by the Integrator such that the system integration issues could be identified as early as possible and assist in their timely resolution to minimize impacts.
- Support the liaison and coordination with relevant parties to propose recommendations in addressing progress deficiencies.
- Review test procedures, witness, and participate in SI acceptance tests to assess the passfail criteria and capture defects of key SI functions in preparation for trial running.
About you
To be considered for these roles you must have tertiary qualifications in engineering from a recognised tertiary institution and the ability to meet the requirements for Level 1 (minimum) competency in accordance with the Sydney Metro Competency Management system
