The Role


The purpose of this role and your unique contribution is to identify compliance and/or regulatory risks affecting the Direct Insurance business, and co-ordinate activities which ensure first line compliance risk maturity meets community expectations through the operationalisation of compliance plans.

This includes ensuring key regulatory information requests and investigation responses are provided in a timely manner, compliance risks embedded within risk profiles, and mapping of key controls to legal/regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong code of ethics and integrity across the Direct Insurance Division to drive greater awareness of our compliance obligations, enabling embedment into business process & practices
  • Understand the compliance obligations business units are required to meet, and provide guidance to all stakeholders which support adherence to applicable laws and regulations
  • Actively facilitate regular coaching/communication forums which updates teams on key legislative and regulatory changes, including corporate updates
  • Identify compliance risks impacting business units and arrange for such risks to be captured within divisional risk profiles in consultation with the risk leads.
  • First line oversight and support for compliance obligation management within Risk Management Systems for the Direct Insurance Division
  • Responsibility for supporting the operational risk team in carrying out any strategic compliance initiatives as part of risk maturity uplift
Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge: Risk Management experience, Business acumen

  • Developed understanding of the regulatory environment, compliance obligations and effective controls
  • Formal written and communication skills;
  • Capabilities in respect of core systems, risk systems and data maintenance;
  • Highly organised, with high attention to detail and forward planning;
  • Experience in supporting strategic change initiatives as part of a project team;
  • Developed stakeholder management skills
  • Understanding of core insurance processes
  • Keeping up to date on relevant legislation changes
  • Undergraduate degree in law or similar, and/or relevant ANZIIF (or similar) accreditation.
