About the team


The
WHS team is responsible for the overall strategic direction and delivery of WHS frameworks for Optus, its subsidiaries and contractors.


About your role...


This is a critical role which will drive a consistent and robust approach to WHS management practice and performance across a number of Optus Business Units (BUs), to facilitate the health and wellbeing of our workers, and to ensure that Optus remains compliant with its WHS legislative obligations.

This role will be for a 12 month fixed term contract.


Core responsibilities will include -

  • Facilitating and implementing the Optus Safety Management System and Health and Wellbeing Program;
  • Carrying out BU WHS risk assessments and incident investigations
  • Participating in and preparing WHS reports for various WHS and risk committees and senior leadership team
  • Provision of specialist advice, guidance and leadership within health, safety, wellbeing and rehabilitation management to all staff, visitors and applicable contractors
  • Monitor and report upon the operation of the safety management system in line with the Optus National WHS Plan;and
  • Single point of contact for all WHS related matters for allocated BUs

Your skills & background...

  • Tertiary qualifications in OHS/Risk with a minimum of 5 years' experience in WHS in complex multisite, multifunction business operations;
  • Internal audit competency and experience ideally gained from Manufacturing, Construction, or Telecommunications industries;
  • Understating of incident investigation practices and preparing monthly reports;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and management of field and office based risks/ hazards/controls;
  • Understanding of Telecommunications risks/ hazards highly advantageous;
  • Demonstrated understanding of ISO45001 accreditation and experience dealing with the external regulatory agencies;
  • Strong influencing skills across all levels of the organisation and external stakeholders;
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and ability to adapt communication styles to specific audiences; &
  • Solid facilitation and influencing skills, with strong reporting and Strong IT literacy (MS Office).
