We have an exciting opportunity available for a Unit Manager to join our management team at dnata catering, located at one of our major ports in Sydney.

What does a typical day look like?


As Unit Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Unit and ensure National Standards, Compliance and Policies are maintained to achieve service delivery operational KPI's.


You will support and assist the Business Manager with the operational performance activities by monitoring operational and strategic projects through the establishment of routine reporting, robust project management framework and business improvement support tools.

  • Develop and implement strategic goals and action plans to meet changing business requirements.
  • Providing daytoday direction and management of organisations, and directing and endorsing policy to fulfil objectives, achieve specific goals.
  • Assessing changing situations and responding accordingly by issuing commands and directives to subordinate staff
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures improvements that support the efficient and effective operation of the Unit.
  • Representing the organisation at official occasions, in negotiations, at conventions, seminars, public hearings and forums, and liaising between areas of responsibility
  • Manage and oversee all service delivery standards and ensure that the Unit meets its obligations towards our customers.
  • Work closely with the Business Manager Sydney and the Head Office team to contribute to the National business development requirements.
  • Market, promote and showcase dnata catering to relevant stakeholders.
  • Make recommendations on service procedures and quality improvements
  • Communicate effectively both internally and externally utilising the appropriate methods.
  • Investigate, analyse and implement corrective action plans to resolve production and operational issues.
  • Ensure that all food products purchased are to specification and that all suppliers are fully aware of requirements.
  • Accountable for forecasting and budgeting process and contributes to the national process.
  • Optimise staffing levels and costs to match the business needs.
What do you need to be successful in securing this role?

  • Demonstrated success in a similar role
  • Proven supervisory and leadership experience to manage a team of 100+ personnel.
  • Substantial exposure to Airline Catering Operation processes.
  • Exceptional people skills, with the ability to negotiate and trouble shoot.
  • A good level of leadership agility, diplomacy and ability to resolve complex problems.
  • Flexibility to work both on the floor and in the office as required.
  • High energy and results driven with the ability to work across and within teams.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good understanding of Food Safety / WHS and quality assurance.
  • Good PC skills and an ability to work with an automated time and attendance system and other businessrelated systems.
  • Competent in documentation and records management using systems such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Competent in dnata and customers systems and portals for truck maintenance MEXX, food ordering JDI, Customer service and logistics (GP4, MICAS, DHL portal, Agility portal) and other systems such as Alpha net, Converga, Dnata Global Hub, Human Force, HR Onboard).
  • Ability to implement and manage efficient process flow and systems in line with budget expectations.
  • Holder of current HR Licence and forklift licence
  • Working knowledge of industrial relations practices
  • Working knowledge of HACCP, ISO, AQIS and Customs systems
  • Working knowledge of OHS and EEO systems
