How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne


The objective of the position is to support the Municipal Building Surveyor to fulfil the responsibility required by Council's Local Laws by managing contracts and contractors and the team of Site Services Officers to monitor compliance and provide the efficient and effective delivery of a permit service including construction site permits, local law permits and enforcement.

The team's responsibilities extend to permit related inspections and the management of information and financials relevant to permits issued. These include the maintenance of all permits and permit registers, (statutory or otherwise) that impact on the building environment.


What you will bring

  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team to achieve high performance outcomes with coaching skills to develop team capabilities, team cohesion and the ability to effectively manage conflict and under performance.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and proven written and oral communication skills, including experience in drafting correspondence, analysing reports and making recommendations.
  • Proven ability to identify, acquire and coordinate resources and staff to ensure the effective delivery of outcomes within required timeframes
  • Experience of business planning, reporting, risk, OH&S and budget responsibilities
