The Opportunity


The goal of this role is to lead the successful end-to-end delivery of CSE's technology services in line with the School's strategic goals and priorities.

High-performing, forward-looking technology services are critical to the School's administration, research and teaching objectives.


This role reports to the Head of School and will have line management responsibility for up to 10 direct reports.

Skills and Experience

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Good technical knowledge of systems including Linux system administration, architecture capacity planning, network technologies and services, Cloud service provider offerings, Database technologies, remote learning, teaching and working technologies.
  • Solid understanding of Cloud Services, onpremise Infrastructure, Applications, Networks, Enduser services and Linux, and more broadly digital infrastructure.
  • Ability to interact meaningfully with, and support researchers, academics and teaching staff working in leadingedge areas beyond the above such as AI, HCI, Cyber Security, quantum computing, robotics, VR, cryptocurrency, highperformance computing, GPU, etc.
  • Have knowledge of some or all of Perl, Python, Tcl/Tk, C, CGI, web development, git/gitlab and bash
  • Appreciation of "open systems" and an understanding of opensource software development methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, supporting and maintaining robust systems supporting teaching and research.
  • Motivated to learn about and research the potential use of cuttingedge technologies independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in administering large numbers of computers in a complex networking environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and stakeholder management in complex matrix environments.
  • Experience in highlevel project and change management with proven success in planning, overseeing, and managing technical projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong financial management experience including developing and managing operational and project budgets.
  • Strong experience leading and motivating a team to deliver essential customer requirements.
  • Highlevel skills in enterpriselevel team management, problemsolving, innovative thinking, and customer satisfaction.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
