About the Role

As the Multicultural and Diversity Officer you will be the Library liaison for communities at risk of exclusion and socially, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) individuals and groups in the Darebin community.


A key focus of the role will be to maximise community engagement and learning through the maintenance and promotion of LOTE collections and by developing engaging and responsive programs and partnerships.


  • Develop and deliver literacy and learning programs for adults with a focus on communities at risk of exclusion to support community learning, and encourage individuals to form a positive connection to the library and others in the community through the sharing of experiences.
  • Implement codesign principals for community engagement to develop community led programs, resources and services for adults focusing on communities at risk of exclusion.
  • Contribute to regular collection maintenance activities in accordance with Darebin Libraries guidelines and plans including strategies for the development of collections for adults with resources that reflect the diverse needs of the Darebin community.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across Darebin Libraries to provide collections and programs to support the implementation of Darebin Libraries' strategies and plans.

Skills & Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in library and information management, adult education, community development and/or less formal qualification with relevant experience working with culturally and linguistic diverse communities or those at risk of exclusion.
  • A current Working with Children Card is essential.
  • A current Victorian Driver's Licence is desirable
