Your role

Based in Perth with opportunities to frequently travel to the Pilbara, the role reports directly to the Native Title, Heritage & Culture Director and is accountable for the management of scheduling and coordination of field work on the Thalanyji determination lands.

Some of the broad and diverse duties will include:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of direct reports (Heritage Officer).
  • Work closely with the On-Country Coordinator to coordinate and manage traditional owner survey teams.
  • Liaise with proponents and other stakeholders to schedule new work.
  • Assist in facilitating meetings and providing information for Thalanyji people, proponents, and CEO.
  • Manage the administration of Native Title Agreements.
  • Monitor the implementation and compliance of Indigenous Land Use, other land access, heritage agreements, and other agreements.
  • Assist with management of timesheets to be issued to Perth office for processing.
  • Regularly travel to and perform field work on Thalanyji lands with survey teams.
  • Map and collate data of artefacts and other culturally significant findings.
  • Write grants and reports and assist with drafting submissions, policies, and protocols.

About you

This means you:

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Native Title Act 1993, the Future Acts regime, Native Title Agreements and other relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrate effective planning and organising skills, including time management, and know what to prioritise (often within a complex work environment with competing priorities).
  • Demonstrate exceptional analytical skills through your problemsolving abilities.
  • Display emotional intelligence and empathy for others as a part of your normal behaviours. You show this in how you integrate a team member's needs, opinions and preferences into the ways work is completed.
  • Respect and have an understanding of Aboriginal culture and their cultural identity.
  • Demonstrate exceptional ability to negotiate and build strong community relationships.

Your qualifications and experience

You have:

  • 3+ years' field or relevant experience.
  • 2+ years' experience working in the Native Title sector, or for a Registered Native Title Body or Prescribed Body Corporate.
  • Bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology, project management or related field.
  • Experience exercising a high level of judgment and discretion.
  • An awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and communities (and the issues potentially faced in remote communities outside of Perth).
