Role responsibilities
Assistant Director-General roles are an integral part of ASIO's Senior Leadership team.

You will work closely with the Executive, SES colleagues, external partners and stakeholders to lead and inspire teams to deliver intelligence outcomes, build capability and champion the Organisation's strategic agenda and values.


As part of this selection process, a merit pool will be established and may be used to fill similar positions over the next 18 months.


ADGs in Intelligence Professional Roles:

  • Lead and inspire intelligence, analytical, and operational (including Human Intelligence (HUMINT) teams to deliver outcomes against counterterrorism, counterespionage and foreign interference priorities.
  • Drive the uplift and implementation of ASIO's intelligence tradecraft and capabilities and future proofing of ASIO's intelligence workforce.
  • Make decisions and provide direction on competing intelligence priorities, anticipate risks and identify innovative solutions and opportunities.
  • Build strong external relationships and represent ASIO in relevant National Intelligence Community, national and international fora.
  • Develop and implement strategic direction aligned with ASIO's strategic agenda, security intelligence effects and outcomes and our capability priorities as reflected in the ASIO Corporate Plan
  • Demonstrate and promote ASIO's Leadership Behaviours.

Key attributes

  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver high quality intelligence, analytical and/or operational outcomes in a complex and everchanging security and geopolitical environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders across the Organisation to deliver against ASIO's mission and enterprisecritical outcomes.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain strategic partnerships across national and international agencies, broader government and the private sector, and make decisions in the best interests of ASIO as a whole.
  • Demonstrated sound judgement and decision making under pressure.
  • Proven ability and core capabilities to prioritise and continuously adapt to deliver results, uplift capability, and learn new skills in a dynamic, highpressure and challenging environment.
  • Strong understanding of the legal frameworks relevant to working in Government and the National Intelligence Community.

To be eligible for a role, you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen.
  • Be assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a Top Secret security clearance at the highest level.

Remuneration
An attractive executive salary plus vehicle allowance and superannuation will be available to the successful applicant(s).
