Position Information:


Inner Sydney High School (ISHS), located on the corner of Cleveland and Chalmers Streets Surry Hills, next to Prince Alfred Park, will have the capacity for 1200 Years students and started with Year 7 students in 2020 and Stage 6 will begin in 2024.


The unique design of the school with refurbished heritage buildings and flexible learning spaces is combined with a 14 level high rise with indoor and outdoor recreational areas.

The school is part of a dynamic and diverse educational precinct which is highly energised, engaged and connected.

This rare opportunity will allow the successful applicant to work with the Principal and staff and continue to establish this new high school on a historically significant site.

The school has a focus on strong academic excellence with the delivery of outstanding teaching and learning programs. The innovative contemporary learning environment supports students to thrive and enjoy their learning. The school is located in walking distance from bus and train networks, however no on-site parking is available.


Selection Criteria:

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Highly developed skills to lead and implement the existing CAPA curriculum and effectively plan for the emerging new CAPA curriculum.
  • Proven ability to develop innovative and differentiated teaching and learning programs in a contemporary learning environment to improve outcomes for a diverse range of students.
  • Capacity to lead the analysis of a range of data to guide teaching and learning within the CAPA KLA to achieve high expectations as the school scales up to Stage
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organisational skills to lead the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) programs and classes within whole school operations, which foster school and community engagement of CAPA activities.
  • Proven ability to work as a highly reflective, collaborative executive leader with a shared responsibility for leading whole school improvement processes that align with the school's current strategic directions.

General Selection Criteria:


  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
