About The Role


The Product Manager (Data) is responsible for ensuring Lonsec's data provision is optimised to meet the delivery of Lonsec's products, and to ensure the data strategy is aligned to the broader Lonsec Group strategic direction.


This role requires an ability to build relationships with our vendors, to understand business needs and to ensure the data strategy is aligned with those needs, and to support broader business objectives including increasing productivity, profitability and market share.

A core part of this role is ensuring that the business understands the data captured and used across the different parts of the business as well as managing that data with respect to our contractual obligations and business needs.


The primarily responsibility is ensuring Lonsec has access to the most relevant data available in the market, from the most appropriate source, and that vendor agreements are managed and maintained in the best interests of Lonsec, commercially and strategically.


Position Responsibilities:

Strategic

  • Develop, implement and maintain a data strategy recognising data as a key asset of the Lonsec Group
  • Support the development of a centralised data hub for Lonsec including a strategy for sourcing required data
  • Enhance the understanding of Lonsec's data across the business including contractual obligations and restrictions to enable more effective utilisation of the data

Data provision and quality management

  • Manage the collection, provision and maintenance of product, benchmark and financial market data from clients and vendors
  • Work closely with the Data Analytics and Operations team to monitor and manage data quality
  • Support others in the daily use of data systems and ensure adherence to legal and company standards

Vendor management

  • Manage the relationship with data providers, including monitoring compliance with terms of service and commercial agreements
  • Regularly review and update commercial agreements to unsure they are appropriate for data usage and user requirements

Continuous improvement

  • Understand and evaluate the data provision requirements required to support Lonsec's processes, leading on improvement initiatives as required
  • Work closely with the Data Analytics and Research Analyst teams in developing new research analytics to support the production of quality research, and delivery of new products and services to market

Prerequisite Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with the financial services / wealth management industry
  • Understanding of DMBOK
  • Exposure to different data vendor solutions, and understanding of how data is used in the industry
  • Experience in managing data vendor relationships and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail is essential.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering change management initiatives and process improvements
  • Ability to work as part of a closeknit team, as well as autonomously, whilst taking responsibility for meeting personal and team objectives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills which can be competently applied across all levels
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills meet deadlines and coordinate and juggle various tasks at a time (and reprioritise as new tasks come to hand)
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills to enable liaising with external clients and vendors with the ability to effectively handle queries and concerns

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in a business or mathematical based discipline (science or engineering) e.g.
BComm, BBus, BA, BEc, BSc, BApSci, plus one of the following:


  • Post Graduate Diploma in Finance / Management / Commerce / Financial Planning
  • Master of Business Administration / Economics / Commerce / Applied Finance
