Southern Queensland Correctional Centre is a women's facility located in Spring Creek, approximately 17 kms from the township of Gatton in the Lockyer Valley.

The centre provides high security secure placement accommodation for sentenced and remand women that are classified as high or low security.

Women who enter the criminal justice system often come from lives characterised by sexual, emotional and physical abuse, domestic and family violence, substance addiction and mental health problems.

QCS provides a gender-responsive, trauma-informed approach to managing women with the goal of offering an opportunity to truly rehabilitate and escape the cycle that led to crime.

It is important to recognise that to change a woman, is to change a generation.

An applicant recommended at interview will also need to conduct a Respond to Medical Emergency fitness test, Medical Assessment as well as First Aid course (HLTAID003/011).

Ten week training for the successful applicant at the Queensland Corrective Services Academy is anticipated to commence 22 April 2024.


Qualifications, professional registration, conditions and other requirements:

  • Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications for this position, possession of the relevant vocational qualification, trade certificate, or equivalent industry experience would be an advantage but not compulsory.
  • Trade qualifications and/or experience in laundry operations would be well regarded.
  • The incumbent must hold a current C class driver licence

In this role you will:


  • Supervise the behaviour and activities of prisoners on a daily basis in accordance with the centre/facility's routine
  • Develop productive relationships with staff, management, professionals, police and other agencies
  • Assist in the rehabilitation of prisoners by participating in or overseeing their work or activities and contributing to case management functions within the centre
  • Identify prisoners who may be at risk and advise relevant staff in a timely manner
  • Interact with prisoners and respond to their needs through the provision of services in an appropriate manner within relevant guidelines and rules
  • Encourage prisoners to participate in programs to maximise their opportunities for rehabilitation
  • Report details or incidents and behaviour of prisoners for the purpose of the sentence management process
  • Participate in the reception, induction and discharge of prisoners in accordance with procedures
  • Assess prisoner needs prior to action and giving consideration to traditional cultural values
  • Prepare reports on relevant activities and maintain appropriate records
  • Perform other administrative duties as required
  • Monitor and maintain the dynamic and static security requirements of the correctional centre or facility, reporting any unusual behaviours or occurrences which could result in a breach of security
  • Undertake searches and perform escort duties of prisoners both within the centre and externally when required
  • Ensure you respond to emergency or security breaches in accordance with prescribed procedures and processes
  • Prepare and submit accurate incident reports/ statements/ records concerning notifiable incidents
  • Identify and respond appropriately to potential security risks and illegal activity
  • Provide reports concerning equipment damage, defects or loss and maintain accurate administration records and other tasks as outlined in the role description.
