Due to ongoing expansion, Ambulance Victoria is currently seeking Division 1 Registered Nurses and Registered Paramedics for Triage Practitioner opportunities based in our Operational Communications Division.


Primarily located in Burwood in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Triage Practitioners undertake a rotating roster in a 24-hour, 7-day work environment.

Working either 21 (part-time) or 42 (full-time) hours per week, your rostered shifts will be between 10 to 12 hours each in length and incorporate morning, afternoon, and night shifts.


About the role


Reporting to Team Leaders, the positions perform a critical function within Ambulance Victoria, acting as a coordination point for "000" callers who do not require emergency ambulance intervention and who can be better managed through an alternative service provider.

This role will enable you to use your clinical knowledge and skills in secondary patient triage and assessment.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- telephone triage of 000 calls
- referral to appropriate service providers within healthcare and community-based organisations
- escalating calls back into the emergency ambulance system
- operation of industry-specific communication systems
- engagement with internal and external stakeholders to determine a coordinated response
- rostered shifts to support the 24/7 service delivery requirement


About you
To be considered for this position you will either be an:

  • AHPRA registered Division 1 Nurse, and a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience that includes:
Triage nursing and/or emergency department patient care
OR Experience working in a Secondary Triage setting for an ambulance service

  • Additional experience in the following areas is highly desirable:_
  • Cardiac, cardiothoracic or intensive care qualified nursing
  • Community or primary care nursing
  • Mental health nursing

OR

  • AHPRA registered qualified Paramedic: a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience working for an Emergency Ambulance Service or Experience working in a Secondary Triage setting for an ambulance service

You will also need to possess:

  • Evidence of an Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency registration
  • Current Victorian Working with Children Check or ability to obtain this prior to commencement

The commencement salary for these positions is $124,010 per annum, pro-rata in alignment with the AMBULANCE VICTORIA OPERATIONAL EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATIONS (2020 Enterprise Agreement) plus 10.5% superannuation.

All staff are required to complete 8 weeks induction and training at full time hours prior to being eligible for a part time (pro-rata) contract.
