The Role


The procurement activities range from complex, highly sensitive and/or high risk procurement projects to less complex, but nonetheless critical procurements that provide enabling services to the Defence Portfolio and ensure Defence capability outcomes are achieved.

The APS6 Contracting Officer is expected to plan, lead and manage a range of simple procurement activities, and provide support to complex procurement activities.


This role will provide the opportunity to assist Defence in delivery capability across the Australian Defence Force through procurement of services.

NMPB delivers commercial expertise and solutions for procurement and contracting across the procurement life cycle to help Defence meet its objectives, maximise value for money outcomes and meet legislative and mandatory policy requirements.

In addition to supporting procurements, the teams review and refine best practice procurement and contracting processes to ensure adherence to regulatory and legislative frameworks.

  • Managing and supporting procurement processes and practices to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks;
  • Managing and ensuring compliance with government probity principles;
  • The identification and mitigation of procurement, probity and contract management related risks;
  • Preparation of procurement, probity and contracting related deliverables for all phases of procurement activities; and
  • Participating in evaluation, negotiation and debriefing processes.
  • Commercial awareness, highly developed interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a team and knowledge of Commonwealth procurement policies are also highly valued.
