Macquarie University is recruiting for an Animal Ethics & Biosafety Administrator who will provide administrative support to the operations of the Animal Ethics Committee and Institutional Biosafety Committee and the Manager, AEC and IBC.


THE ROLE

  • Salary Package: From $76,908 $87,443 (HEW Level 5), plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
  • Appointment Type: Part-Time (0.60 FTE), Fixed Term
  • Location: Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, Dharug land, North Ryde


The Animal Ethics & Biosafety Administrator will provide administrative support to the operations of the Animal Ethics Committee (AEC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and the Manager, AEC and IBC.


Key responsibilities:

  • Arranging and coordinating AEC meetings, events, training sessions and functions including arranging meetings, room bookings, catering, agenda and materials preparation, minute taking, and providing other administration support where required.
  • Arranging and coordinating Institutional Biosafety Committee meetings, events, training sessions and functions including arranging meetings, room bookings, catering, agenda and materials preparation, minute taking, and providing other administration support where required.
  • Assist the University Veterinarian and Animal Ethics & Biosafety Manager with the preparation of reports to the University and Government authorities.
  • Actively contribute to the improvement of Animal Ethics and Biosafety administrative processes.
  • Support the Animal Ethics & Biosafety Manager with the Ethics website and newsletter
  • Manage animal ethics monitoring systems (reminder letters to research authority holders, reports, followup after AEC Meetings), maintain ARA's (Animal Research Authorities), and maintenance of AEC VCRO files, FoRA database and other records

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A relevant qualification and/or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of best practice in providing customer service and working in a customer service environment.
  • Working in a team and taking instruction from multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to convey information and ideas clearly and succinctly to individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally handle sensitive and confidential information and use appropriate judgement and discretion.
  • Strong problemsolving skills and adaptability, with the ability to manage and prioritise competing and often ambiguous demands to meet deadlines.
Desirable

  • Experience working in the Higher Education Sector.
  • Working in Research administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Biosafety and Biosecurity regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and guidelines and the ability to quickly understand animal research to provide clear and consistent advice and support to staff and Animal Ethics Committees on the ethical conduct of research and regulatory obligations.
