Forensicare provides specialist forensic mental health services across 12 of Victoria's 14 prisons with expansion underway to include Western Plains in the Barwon region.

Located at Port Phillip Prison in Truganina, VIC.

St Paul's Unit is a 30-bed psychosocial rehabilitation service that provides specialist, voluntary mental health care, treatment and therapeutic programs to prisoners with a mental health diagnosis.

Participants selected for the program require psychosocial rehabilitation to minimise risk of relapse and enhance their social functioning in preparation for returning to general prison environment or release to community.


About the Role:


  • The Therapeutic Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination and delivery of evidence based, therapeutic programs on St Paul's psychosocial rehabilitation Unit at Port Phillip Prison.

Duties:

- promote an organisational culture that reinforces high standards of therapeutic recovery orientated practice

  • Develop and implement strategies which promote efficiency, transparency and flexability within system service delivery
  • Assists and supports G4S correctional staff in providing a safe and therapeutic unit environment.
  • Promotes best practice in the delivery of rehabilitation services to consumers with complex mental health needs.

About You:


As a senior clinician, it is expected that you will have the following:

  • Sound understanding of trauma informed care and demonstrated commitment to working within a recovery-oriented framework.
  • An ability to research evidencebased best practice and implement this within the service.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently undertake comprehensive assessments of mentally ill prisoners and to plan, implement and evaluate interventions and therapeutic programs.
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in staff leadership and coordination
  • An ability to practice in a complex and diverse environment

What you need:


Nursing

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).

Occupational Therapy

  • Approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognised for membership of Occupational Therapy Australia
  • Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).

Psychology

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited course or equivalent, or a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
